Camp Bestival 2019 review
By: Glamping UK
Is it possible to grow up and evolve with a festival?
Each year we make our annual pilgrimage to what we think is the most epic show on earth and each year it changes, we change, we grow a little older and possibly wiser, we want to be entertained by different things and some how Camp Bestival delivers!
The line up was as ever excellent, it’s like home turf for Jess Glynn who rocked the Friday night and man of the moment Lewis Capaldi gave an unforgettable performance on the Sunday......but this year was different.....we found ourselves stepping away from the main stage and going a little more ‘off piste’. Miss Kiddy and the Cads opened the main stage on Friday with a swinging vibe, Das Brass in the Caravanserai put a smile on everyone’s faces and a big thank you to Bangers and Mash at Fire and Rescue for dropping what might have been one of the coolest old skool sunset sets we’ve ever heard.
This year wasn’t about the music as much, the kids are growing up and they want to do stuff, they want to create, they want to learn and there was plenty of this on offer to keep them occupied. Wild Tribe, conceived by Rosie was born...you walked over the hill and just stood there for a moment to catch you’re breath, it was like a festival in itself but different...more laid back. We crafted a wizard staff at ‘Roe Wood Staffs’, created a space rocket powered by air, made mud cakes and generally got messy in the beautiful Lizzie’s way.
Fitness has crept into the offerings and we busted it on the Kind stage to power the mobile phones for our Festival friends and couldn’t resist a spin class at the banging Spinbox container.
Bollywood provided great entertainment as ever @bigfishlittlefish is always a surreal highlight of the weekend. Batala Portsmouth were draw dropping, we stood with the crowd on the hill mesmerised by the rhythm, rocking to the beat and inside everyone I think was secretly wish they had learned to play drums at school.....we even got to have a bang on one of them.....they were loud....and fun!
The bad bits....yes there were some. Most importantly where was the Pimms tent next to the courtyard? More market / trade stands seem to be popping up so there were a few more ‘can we have one of those’ questions from the kids more than previous years. The trollies, we saw a couple turn over with arms hanging out and get crushed.....not great and it’s only a matter of time before we see a more serious accident.
We will be back, for sure.....will we being doing the same things next time.......probably not......but that’s what makes Camp Bestival so perfect!
