  • The site is located on the Dorset Wiltshire border, and is also only a few of miles from the New Forest in Hampshire. Whilst is is common to describe this type of camping as glamping, we have a slightly different perspective. Although Chalke Valley provides necessary modern day comforts such as a hot shower, and a comfortable bed -  we encourage our campers to enjoy a more natural experience and connect with the outdoors and nature. We benefit from a range of wildlife, wonderful sunsets, and huge star filled skies. The site is situated between a large pond and a small copse, with frogs, dragonflies, mallards, and a resident nesting moorhen!

Modern life is full of distractions, and this is a fantastic opportunity to disconnect from your hectic life, and simply RELAX! Our tents are great for groups of friends, families, and couples, who want to embrace the outdoors, whilst still enjoying a few necessary home comforts. We understand the importance of a freshly brewed coffee and local produce for cooking!

  • Our top of the range, extra tough canvas bell tents are completely weather proof and can comfortably sleep 4 people. In addition to the bell tents, we offer two luxury safari tents, with private loo/shower, and gas heater.

Perfect for groups of friends, families, or couples who want that extra bit of space! The bell tents are 5m in diameter with 4 mosquito proof windows. The geodomes are 6m in diameter with a double bed, sofa futon, and single futon. On a hot day the bell tent sides can be rolled up, and allow a cooling breeze through the tent. The double doors can be opened with or without the mosquito net. Evenings can be enjoyed in the candle-lit tent with a glass of wine or beer, looking out to the beautiful scenery, or seated around a blazing log fire toasting marshmallows enjoying the panoramic views and star-studded skies. Each tent has a double mattress bed and two single futons, hot water bottles, a few good books, some playing cards, a cafetiere and a few cooking essentials.

    We provide:

Bedding for double bed (not futons)

    Hot Water Bottles x 2

  • Bowerchalke is a pretty meandering village with a church, village hall,  and cricket pitch with new pavilion.   On Saturday mornings there is a weekly market in the village hall, run by volunteers, which supplies home-made and home grown fare (cakes, bread and pastries, vegetables and salad, soups, conserves, locally produced meats, trout from the trout farm in the village, etc.)

The neighbouring village of Broadchalke has a good pub, an excellent shop stocking local produce and incorporating a cafe and post office.  There are also watercress beds, where you can buy fresh watercress and free range eggs at any time of day.

There is a good selection of traditional pubs right down the valley and in the surrounding area.   A beautiful walk over farmland and footpaths leads to the Horseshoe Inn, which specialises in traditional ales and hearty food.

A visit to Salisbury is a must with its magnificent cathedral and close, and its many shops, cafes and restaurants.  A bus service operates from Bowerchalke to Salisbury.

Further afield is the Jurassic Coast (the famous Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove), the seaside town of Weymouth, Stonehenge, Longleat House and Wildlife Park, Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole caves, and attractions such as Bovington Tank Museum and Monkey World, all within an hour’s drive.

Local events during the summer months include The Chalke Valley History Festival, The Larmer Tree Festival, The Great Dorset Steam Fair and the Shaftesbury and Gillingham Show.
