Nestled in the undulating hills of Rutland, Rutland Rural Retreats is a small, romantic and secluded, adult only, dog friendly glamping retreat set off the beaten track within 4 acres of beautiful old meadow land. RRR is located just over the Rutland border, 4 miles from the very quaint & historic market town of Uppingham with an array of dog friendly cafes and restaurants. Rutland is famous for a number of things but perhaps most notably is Rutland Water, a beautiful expanse of water, just 10 minutes away where you can take in the scenery on that romantic stroll, feel the breeze in your hair as you cycle around the lake (taking in the odd refreshment as you go!) or get a little more active at the water sports centre. There are also so many historic houses and gardens to be visited, quaint and cobbled market towns to enjoy (Stamford being just 20 minutes away), ancient woodlands to explore and superb eateries to indulge in. It really is a beautiful county - not bad for being the smallest county in the country!
Rutland Rural Retreats blends the healing powers of nature with the magic of seclusion and the comforts of home in three stylishly furnished, heated, en-suite units - two wooden pods and one Shepherds Hut. All three are fully self contained with en-suite and kitchenette and have their own enclosed garden areas for peace of mind when bringing canine companions. Woodpecker is the furthest in the meadow with its wrap around garden. Bumblee is the nearest with the highest fencing at 1.5m. Shepherds Rest is our showcase Shepherds Hut complete with its very own wood fired hot tub and has the largest garden. Please note, the height of the fencing at Woodpecker and Shepherds Rest is currently 1m.
The Rutland Round is also accessible direct from the meadow for 2025 along with miles of stock free footpaths, bridleways and cycling routes.
Pack your bags, leave your troubles behind and enjoy a magical escape to the country with your four legged friends.
There are just three stylish accommodation choices at Rutland Rural Retreats - Woodpecker, Bumblebee and Shepherds Rest. Unlike bigger sites, these are set discreetly a good distance away from each other for maximum privacy and each have their own enclosed gardens. All three are stylishly furnished with rustic charm and have their own en-suites and kitcehnettes for maximum home comforts. No late night dashes to a toilet block here! The en-suites come complete with flushing toilets, electric shower, hand basin and heated towel rail; The kitchenette has a combination microwave oven (full oven in Shepherds rest), fridge freezer, two ring hob and all the utensils needed to make that special meal, whether that be using the kitchenette or the fire pit with BBQ arm outside. Talking of the great outdoors, the pods have their own raised decking area for enjoying that early morning cup of coffee or that late nite tipple; whilst Shepherds Rest takes that touch of luxury that little step further with its very own wood fired hot tub! Sit back and relax with the sounds of the meadow and its inhabitants whilst the twinkling lights and lantern add magic to the evening affair.
For those summer days there is a picnic table with seating outside together with sun loungers for relaxing with that book or just catching some rays. The pods have everything you need but should you want to venture out to see the sights and enjoy the vast array of restaurants and pubs, then there is so much to chose from. See our website www.rutlandruralretreats.com for a full guide with special mention for dog friendly places!
The site is accessed via a padlocked gate (code is provided in joining instructions) and then a short drive down a limestone track to the car park. Here you will find luggage trolleys to transport your belongings over the wooden bridge and brook to your glamping pod in the meadow beyond. Along your way, don't be surprised to see our horses happily playing or grazing in nearby paddocks and not forgetting Hamish, Hector and Hugo - our wonderfully friendly Swiss Valais black nose sheep!
Prices start at £130 per pod per night for longer, midweek stays, £220 for premium, bank holiday stays in Shepherds Rest. Minimun 2 night stay.
Bedding/towels, fire pit packs, and early check in can be booked as extras. Dogs stay free - maximum two dogs per pod unless agreed with owners.
Your accommodation choices are stylishly furnished and heated. In the pods a comfy double bed is screened from the main living area and shelving and hanging space is available for your essentials.
